I love to see Hummingbirds, but unfortunally they don’t come. Therefore I made a feeding place for them. I saw one or two coming on the old place, but since I moved a little further, I haven’t seen any of them. Perhaps I didn’t find the right place. One of the recipe says, I should color the bottle red. Some time ago I colored it and now I’m waiting. Hope they will find it. If not, I will move the cointainer to a new place. If anyone wants to know, what you can give hummingbirds, here is the recipe:
Hummingbird Nectar Recipe
1:4 should be the Sugar-Water-Mixture (1 sugar, 4 water)
Boil mixture slowly for 1-2 minutes. Let it cool down.
You do not have to cook it, it only helps against mildew or fermentation.
At Temperture 70-80 F (21-26 C), replace food every 5-6 days. At Temperture 81-90 F (27-30 C), replace food every 2-4 days. If Temperture exceeds 91 F (32 C), renew daily.
Instead of adding color to the food, it is a good idea to use a red food container to attract the birds.
Do not use honey, fortified sugars, artificial sweeteners, brown sugar or other sweeteners as these are not part of the hummingbird’s feeding plan. Some of them can make the birds sick or even kill them.
