Had seen a Fata Morgana (mirage) on this day. Although I’ve seen it several times and know what it looks like, I’ve forgotten what physical phenomena caused this mirage. Therefore I did a look, how Auntie Google could help me find the information.
One definition I found says, that a Fata Morgana is a mirage in which distant parts of a landscape seem to be closer or water surfaces are faked. Especially it is occurring in desert areas and polar regions.
The lower layers of the air are heated by the sun. The layers of air abouve are cooler. They look like a mirror showing an image of distant objects, which can be quite far away. And on hot days, you can see mirages over hot, dark asphalt.
